Asplundh secures new contracts for Integral Energy, NSW

Asplundh has successfully tendered for several of the 'Vegetation Control in Proximity to Overhead Electricity Network Assets' contracts for Integral Energy. The new contracts commence on 1 July 2008 and continue a 12-year working relationship between Asplundh and Integral Energy.

Asplundh’s Managing Director, Carl Rogers said this demonstrates the commitment from Asplundh to its customers on all levels of its business. "In being awarded these contracts Integral Energy has shown their confidence in our performance. I believe the Asplundh team have been rewarded for their diligence, professionalism and working to our motto, 'Safety First... No One Gets Hurt'".

Each contract is for a 5 year term and span multiple areas in the greater metropolitan Sydney region. Asplundh is responsible for ensuring that trees and vegetation are kept to minimum clearances from Integral’s powerlines and assets. This is essential for ensuring continuity of supply and more importantly during bushfire season, that there is no risk of trees encroaching onto powerlines and potentially causing bushfires that threaten people's lives, the environment and property.

Under the contract Asplundh is also responsible for identifying trees that are dead, dying or diseased. As a result of a prolonged drought period in NSW, many trees that have become stressed are still, despite the break in the drought from late 2007, spontaneously dying off, whilst others have become diseased. The removal of these trees is critical for the welfare of surrounding vegetation - preventing diseases spreading, and minimising the possibility of branches or trees falling.

Asplundh is also contracted to provide a 7 day, 24 hour emergency response service. The summer of 2007/8 brought some severe weather events to NSW that caused considerable damage to trees and powerlines as well as private property. Should similar events occur in the future, Asplundh is able to mobilise crews to assist the cleanup in the wake of storms and/or emergencies.
